Recap: PG 2 - VIC 3 OT

Tyler Soy scored the overtime winner as the Victoria Royals beat the visiting Prince George Cougars 3-2 Friday night in the first of back to back games.

Brandon Magee tied the score at 2 in the middle frame with his second of the night and 13th of the season, ultimately forcing the extra inning.

The Cougars overcame an early 1-0 deficit with a pair of shorthanded goals by Chase Witala and Aaron Boyd, before the Royals came back to earn the extra point.

2nd place Victoria pulls 4 points up on 3rd place Prince George in the BC Division, and take a 3-2 season series lead.

Coleman Vollrath stopped 20 of 22 shots, while Ty Edmonds kicked out 33 of 36.  The Royals heavily out shot the Cougars 19-5 in the middle frame.

Victoria was 1 for 7 on the power play, while stopping all 4 Prince George power plays.

The Royals now improve to 4-2 on their current 7 game homestand, which began with a split against the same divisional foes, and now wraps up Saturday evening against the ‘Cats.

Tyler Soy extends his point streak to 8 games with 14 points in that span (8g 6a).  Travis Brown continues to lead all defensemen in points with 41 after adding a pair of assists.  He also extended his streak to 8 games with 14 points (4g 10a).  Austin Carroll’s 7 game point streak was snapped.

Alex Forsberg earned his first point as a Royal, assisting on Magee’s opening goal of the game.

For Saturday night’s contest Vancouver based hockey entertainers, the Green Men will be in attendance as part of their farewell tour. Puck drop for both games is at 7:05 p.m.

Victoria will then head out on a three game Central Division road trip for 3 games in 3 nights next weekend, beginning in Red Deer, then Calgary Hitmen and Edmonton.
