Victoria is riding a 4 game win streak, and winners of 7 of their last 8 after earning back to back road wins on their Alberta swing.

The Royals edged the Rebels 2-1 in a shoot out Friday, and beat the Hitmen 4-1 Saturday.

The Oil Kings beat the visiting Pats 6-2 on Wednesday, and have won 6 games in their last 10.  Edmonton is 4th in the Central, 2 back of Calgary and 4 up on Kootenay.

With 51 points this season, the Royals are firmly 2nd in the BC Division, 9 up on the Cougars.

The Oil Kings have allowed the 3rd fewest goals against, own the 2nd best penalty kill percentage, and have taken the 4th fewest penalty minutes on average per game.

Netminder Tristan Jarry, who is drafted and signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins is the reigning CHL goaltender of the week and owns the 5th best gaa and save % in the WHL.

Brett Pollock, 2nd round pick of Dallas, leads Edmonton in scoring with 40 points.  Victoria native, 18 year old defenseman Dysin Mayo, a 5th round selection of Arizona, is 4th in team scoring with 32 points.

The Oil Kings are 5 over .500 at home (13-8-0-1), while the Royals improve to 3 under (9-12-0-1).

In Calgary Saturday, Austin Carroll scored twice, while Brandon Magee added three assists.  Joe Hicketts and Travis Brown had a pair of points each while Justin Paulic earned the victory with 20 saves.

“Outside of the Regina game (5-0), and one game against Kelowna (4-3OTW), it’s probably our best game of the year.” said Head Coach Dave Lowry

The Royals went 2 for 2 on the power play, and shut down Calgary’s only man advantage.

Brown and Hicketts are now 1-2 in defenseman scoring in the WHL with 43 and 42 points respectively.

Magee’s three points puts him into a tie with Kevin Sundher for the franchise scoring lead at 241 (104g-137a).  That sets the stage for Magee to set the record in his hometown of Edmonton Sunday.

Greg Chase also hails from the area (Sherwood Park) and Russian defenseman Marsel Ibragimov played one game for the Oil Kings before being claimed off waivers by the Royals.

Former Victoria defenseman Jake Kohlhauser plays for Edmonton.

Carroll has 28 goals on the season, 3rd most in the WHL, he also is the league leader in power play goals with 13.  His 55 points leads his club, and is tied for 9th overall.

The Royals begin a two game home series against the Kamloops Blazers on Friday, January 23rd at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 24th at 7:05 p.m. Get your tickets in advance by calling 250-220-7777 or visiting at www.victoriaroyals.com.
