Victoria looks to avenge a 3-1 road loss to Vancouver a week ago last Saturday.

The Giants try to remain undefeated with a 2-0 record after a 5-3 home victory over the Winterhawks Friday night.

The Royals are coming off their first win of the season Saturday, edging the Blazers 4-3 in overtime.

Joe Hicketts scored the game winner, while Austin Carroll tied the game late in the third with the goaltender pulled.

Coleman Vollrath earned the victory with 32 saves, while Cole Kehler allowed 4 goals on 31 shots.

Brandon Fushimi and Dante Hannoun both scored power play goals for Victoria, who went 2 for 6 with the man advantage.  For Hannoun, the Royals 11th overall selection in 2013, it was his first WHL goal.

Hicketts, Hannoun and Fushimi recorded a goal and assist each.

The victory avenged an 8-2 loss on home ice to the Blazers one night earlier.

Defenseman Keegan Kanzig was returned by the Calgary Flames and was inserted into the line up.  Ryan Gagnon (susp tbd), and Brandon Magee (susp) did not play.

Vancouver rookie forward Tyler Benson scored his first WHL goal Friday, while Vladimir Bobylev and Joel Hamilton both had two point nights as the Giants beat the visiting Winterhawks 5-3.

Vancouver has given up the fewest shots against on average after two games, while taking the most shots for.  The Giants did however outshoot the Royals 45-12 in their only meeting so far.

Vancouver has yet to strike on the power play after two games (0/8).

The Giants roster was bolstered this week as two players returned from NHL Main Camps.  Defenseman Mason Geertsen from the Avalanche and Jackson Houck from the Oilers.

Vancouver forward Alec Baer played in the USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game on Thursday night in Buffalo and helped team Mike Grier to a 6-3 win over Team Ed Olczyk. Baer had a goal and an assist in the victory.

After wrapping up 3 in 3 days for the Royals they’ll have a week of practice before entertaining the Swift Current Broncos Saturday and the Portland Winterhawks Monday.
