Recap: KTN 0 - VIC 3

Coleman Vollrath earned his first WHL shutout making 25 saves as the Victoria Royals (19-11-0-1, 39pts) blanked the visiting Kootenay Ice 3-0 on Tuesday night.

The Royals power play struck twice on three opportunities and also scored a short handed goal.  Vollrath (6-2-0-1) was instrumental in stopping all 4 Ice man advantages.

It was the clubs first win against Kootenay since relocating to the Island and remain 4th in the West.

Austin Carroll opened the scoring on the power play, and Brandon Magee added a shorthanded breakaway goal to give the home team a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Logan Nelson finished off a 2-0 power play breakaway with Jack Palmer to put the Royals up 3-0 heading into the third.  There would be no scoring in the final frame, as Victoria outshot Kootenay 7-5, but were outshot overall 25-19.

Nelson had a goal and an assist, while Brett Cote had two helpers.

Victoria is now a perfect 15-0 when scoring first, and 14-0 when taking a lead to the third period.

The Royals now have shut out the opposition in 5 games this year, and remain the stingiest team in the league, allowing the fewest goals against per game on average.  Their penalty kill also remains #1.

Victoria now entertains Vancouver for a pair Friday and Saturday and then embark on a 5 game road trip before the Christmas break.
