Recap: PG 0 - VIC 3

Logan Nelson had 3 points and Patrik Polivka 24 saves as the Victoria Royals blanked the visiting Prince George Cougars 3-0 Monday afternoon. 

The victory pushed the Royals win streak to 4 games, all during their 5 game homestand which wrap up against the same Cougars Wednesday night.

Nelson opened the scoring early in the first, and Austin Carroll’s power play marker late in the opening frame gave Victoria a 2-0 lead until Nelson’s 2nd of the night into an empty net late in the third.

The line of Nelson (2g 1a), Carroll (1g 1a), and Brandon Magee (2a) combined for 7 points. 

Polivka earned his 3rd shut out of the season, and is now 7-0 lifetime against the Cougars.  The Czech Republic netminder now has shut outs in 2 of his last 3 starts and improves to 6-4 on the season.

Brett Zawrony was valiant in net for Prince George, allowing 2 goals on 31 Royals’ shots.  Victoria outshot their opposition by a 13-5 margin in the third when leading 2-0, and 32-24 overall.

The Royals (7-5, 14pts) move into first place in the BC Division over the idle Rockets, and are three points up on the 3rd place Cougars ( 5-5-0-1, 11pts).

Victoria was 1 for 5 on the power play, while their 2nd best penalty kill went 4 for 4.

Both clubs were playing 3 games in 4 days, with the Cougars figuring in a day of travel as well.

The Royals improve to 2-1 on the season against the Cougars, and all contests have been shut outs.  Prince George won 2-0 at home October 1st, followed by a 1-0 Victoria win the next night.

The Royals Logan Nelson extended his goal scoring streak to 5 games (6g 4a, 10pts), while Austin Carroll (3g 4a, 7pts) pushed his point streak to 4 games.
