Recap: VIC 2 - PORT 6


The Victoria Royals fell 6-2 in Portland against the Winterhawks in the first of back to back meetings Friday Night.

Winterhawks forwards Nic Petan (2g, 1a), Ty Rattie (1g, 2a) and defenseman Tyler Wotherspon (3a) each had 3 point nights, helping the club to their 7th win in a row. 

The Royals now have dropped 3 straight on the road, and seek to avenge the loss Saturday night.

Victoria openend the scoring with the man advantage from Brandon Magee, but trailed 3-1 after 20 minutes while being outshot 30-11.

Down 4-1 in the second, the Royals scored their second power play goal of the game from Jordan Fransoo, his first of the season to cut the lead in half. 

Portland promptly replied :28 seconds later, with 2 goals in a span of :25 seconds to take a 6-2 lead to the third.

There was no scoring in the third, as the Winterhawks take the first of four season meetings.

Final shots 47-29 for the home team, who’ve outshot the opposition in each of their contests this season.

Patriik Polivka made 36 saves through 40 minutes.
Royals netminder Patrik Polivka played the first 40 minutes, stopping 36 of 42 shots, while Coleman Vollrath started the third, kicking out all 5 shots he faced.  Brendan Burke made 27 saves for his fourth win of the season.

Victoria’s power play went 2 for 7, while stopping all 5 Portland man advantages.

It was a physically played game, with 78 penalty minutes handed out.

After Saturday’s game in Portland, Victoria travels to Alberta for stops in Lethbridge, Calgary and Medicine Hat, part of 5 games in 9 nights on the road.
