Preview: Saskatoon at Victoria

The Victoria Royals (11-11, 22pts), entertain the 2013 Memorial Cup host team Saskatoon Blades (10-10-0-1, 21pts) Tuesday night.

It’s their only meeting of the season, last year the Blades won at home by a 9-6 score on January 21st.

Both Victoria and Saskatoon have .500 records.  The Royals are 6th in the West, while the Blades are 11th in the East, just 2 points out of a playoff spot and 11 out of top spot in the Conference.

Victoria had their 2 game win streak snapped against Regina Saturday as Morgan Klimchuk scored with 25 seconds left to lead the Pats to a 3-2 victory.  Jordan Fransoo and Tyler Stahl had the goals for the home club.

The Royals opened a 6 game homestand the night before with a 5-0 shut out win over the visiting Everett Silvertips.

Saskatoon has won back to back contests, the first two of their 5 game BC road swing. 

Sunday they scored 3 unanswered in the third period for a 5-2 victory in Vancouver. The Blades outshot the Giants 15-4 in the 3rd, while going 2 for 5 on the power play.

Metej Stransky had 2 goals, Kyle Schmidt had 3 assists, Duncan Siemens, Nick Zajac and Shane McColgan all had 2 points each.  Representing Team Russia at the Super Series was netminder Andrey Makarov who stopped 30 shots for his 10th win of the year.  He’s appeared in the Blades last 15 contests.

Friday Saskatoon shut out the Prince George Cougars 4-0.  They’ve now won 5 of their last 7, and have points in 6 of those contests.

The Blades have a total of 7 players who are currently property of NHL teams.
